Barrow Park hosted its annual summer extravaganza on Sunday as vintage cars gleamed in the sunshine, inspiring cancer patients and survivors sold their best bakes and children enjoyed fairground rides.
Donkey rides, music from Denis Horan and children’s entertainment from “Silly Sam” attracted huge crowds as families took advantage of the good weather for a perfect day out.
Diana Burns, 44, of Park Road, Barrow, has been putting on the fun days in Barrow Park for the last six years and chose to raise money for Breast Cancer Care this year as she has been diagnosed with the disease.
Despite her treatment, Mrs Burns was determined to put the gala on. She carried on with all of the arranging and event planning even when she was ill.
She said: “It was really busy, it couldn’t have gone any better. Lots of families came along. Everyone had a good time.
“The characters and classic cars went really well. There was a lot of interest in them. The support I’ve had from family and friends has been amazing. I couldn’t have managed it all by myself.”
There was something for everyone on the day, with plenty of stalls set up to browse, face painting on offer, and miniature train rides for children to enjoy, as well as bouncy castle.
All the money raised from the fun day will go towards the charity, with some brave men also volunteering for a sponsored chest wax on the day.
