Cattle, horses, dogs and donkeys were just some of the animals displayed at Ulverston and North Lonsdale Show, which has grown to huge popularity over the past 177 years.

Without a drop of rain throughout the whole of the day, families, farmers and animal lovers milled around the showground taking in all there was to offer.

Preparing for the one-day event, show secretary, Margaret Coward, said: “We are all so pleased with how the day has gone and we are overwhelmed with the number of people who came.

“Also the amount of support we have received from local people and people from further away has been amazing.

“It is a charity organisation and we really appricatiate all the help we get to set it up, so I just wanted to thank everyone who has helped to organise the show and helped with setting up today.

“We will be having a meeting in 10 days to start discussing the next show.”

Proud farmers gathered with their rivals to show off their prized cattle which included British blue cows, Texel sheep and limousin bulls.

Alice’s Dog Show, which is now in its fifth year, remained a big success.

Dozens of dogs waited patiently for their turn to wag their tails in front of the judges.

Children were spoilt for choice with trampolines, bouncy castles, giant slides and donkey rides, among other attractions.

Rows of food stalls lined up to sell a little taste of Cumbria.

From frozen yoghurt to classic home baking, there was something to tempt all tastebuds.

Show treasurer, Alison Fitzsimmonds, said: “It has been very busy which is most likely down to the weather and the free bus from Ulverston.

“We didn’t do that last year so it’s probably had something to do with the number of people here.”

Treasurer, Mandy Higginson, said: We have had really positive feedback and really fortunate weather.

“The turn out has been excellent and it has been well supported. It has been a fantastic day.”

A new exciting addition to this years show was the Jez Avery stunt show which saw stuntman Jez Avery launch through the air on his mountain bike.

The all-round showman was a huge hit with both adults and children.

The Cumbrian Retirement Band never let the grounds go silent for a second as they filled the air with classic brass band tunes as families sat and watched while enjoying picnics and ice creams in the sunshine.
