Leigh 52  Barrow 20

Barrow were shown no mercy by the Centurions at the Leigh Sports Village who completed the double over the Raiders.

Barrow were in contention at the break ten points adrift, but once into their stride in the second period, there was no stopping this powerful full-time side, although never to throw the towel in, Barrow hit back with two converted tries in the closing stages.

James Duerden made a surprise appearance for Barrow his first game in over four years while Brett Carter came in on the wing for Shane Toal.

Carl Forster's shoulder injury kept him out of the action with Nathan Mossop rested.

The Centurions showed their respect for Barrow and were at full strength, with former Great Britain winger and new recruit Josh Charnley on the bench.

Coach Adrian Lamb decided to go with former Australian Blake Ferguson and Kris Inu, and included his young son Lachlan in the 17.

Barrow surprised the league leaders by going into a 6-0 lead after only nine minutes on the clock.

A chip through the Centurions defence enabled Hakim Miloudi to swoop and cross the white-wash with Ryan Shaw tagging on the extra two points.

It was nip and tuck, and ten minutes later it was all square.

Leigh launched a raid and dotting the ball down was Kai O'Donnell with Kris Inu converting.

Barrow brought on Connor Saunders for Josh Wood, and Charlie Emslie for Ellis Gillam, and within a minute of being on the field, Emslie was taken high in a tackle, allowing Shaw to slot over a 30-yard penalty goal - 6-8 on 27 minutes.

However, in the closing stages of the first period, the Centurions crossed twice through South Sea Islander Edwin Ipape and half-back Joe Mellor, both converted by Inu.

The second half was a different story as the home side upped the gears.

Slick handling along the line saw Ed Chamberlain on for an unconverted try 22-8.

Pape then powered his way over as he crossed by the posts for Inu to convert. 28-8.

Ioane and Inu were next on the score sheet along with McDonnell, three conversions from Inu taking the score to 46-8.

However, a purple patch saw Barrow hit back with tries from Ritson and Sammut with two goals from Shaw 46-20.

Leigh rounded off the scoring with a try from Smith converted by Inu.

Barrow travel to play off rivals Batley next Sunday before meeting Featherstone at home the following week.
