Ulverston Amateur hooker Connor Saunders is in line to start for the Raiders at table topping Leigh Centurions.

The live-wire hooker ironically has made just one appearance this term that against Leigh.

Saunders came off the bench to score a well taken try as Barrow almost caused an upset on Jubilee Thursday back in June.

Barrow stormed back to lead the Centurions 28-24 with time almost up when Jarrad Sammuts pass was intercepted by former Australian Test winger Blake Ferguson who raced 90 yards to seal a 30-28 victory.

The Centurions have lost just once in 20 league fixtures this season going down at Featherstone.

Barrow will go into the game with an air of confidence following their 36-24 win over Widnes in the Summer Bash at Headingley last Sunday, stretching their winning run to five.

Leigh meanwhile who are joint favourites to make the step up to Super-League along with Featherstone had no mercy on the Yorkshire side last weekend running out clear winners 46-16.

Coach Paul Crarey has no problems with thrusting Saunders into such a big game.

He said: “Connor deserves a chance; he comes down and trains hard with the squad and has no problems building into our system.

“We have no worries about Leigh going into the game, they are top and are full of big strong players especially in the forwards with several South Pacific Islanders.

“But if we move the ball around like we are capable of then there could be an upset.

“In the home game their big lads took them into a commanding lead, but once we started moving the ball at speed, they found it difficult to cope with our back line.

"When you play a team like Leigh, you either get blown away or it could be a close contest.

“We had a good session this week with Barrow Island who gave us some good contact rugby.

“We have had them once before and it is a good work out.”

Leigh who has splashed the cash will not take Barrow lightly

and recently signed from Warrington former Great Britain winger Josh Charley.

The two wingers Charnley and Ferguson face Barrows own speed merchants Tee Ritson and Shane Toal so it will be an interesting challenge for all four out wide.

Carl Forster will be facing a late fitness test; the hard-working forward is set to have an operation on Monday for a shoulder injury.

Jarrad Sammut has been handed a one match ban for an incident in a tackle against Widnes, but the ban doesn’t come into effect until the game at Batley next Sunday.
