A man was attacked after he refused to hand over his phone and wallet in an attempted robbery.

Cumbria Police are investigating the incident that happened at the junction of School Street and Ramsden Street at about 1.30am on Sunday June 30.

A man in his forties was approached by two men.

Police described the assailants as in their early twenties and speaking with Eastern European accents.

They asked for the man’s phone and wallet and the victim was then punched when he did not give them the property.

The man sustained cuts and bruises to his face.

Officers are now appealing for information.
