Barrow shop named as the best in the north of England

Jenny Stitches announced the victory on Tuesday after the Stitch Industry Awards named it as the best fabric shop in the north.

Jenny Fazackerley, the owner of the store, originally opened its doors on Dalton Road in 2019 before moving to a new, nearby location in July last year.

She said: "The news of the award was a complete surprise - however I was delighted to find out that I had won as it’s a real boost to my confidence and indicates that my customers are happy.

"It’s been such a busy year moving premises into the bigger shop space so it’s amazing to see that hard work starting to pay off."

Jenny took to social media following the news, thanking the mystery customers who put her name forward for the accolade.

"I don’t know who nominated me, however I have a lot of really lovely customers," she added.

"Not just locally but also online who shop via the website from all over the country, so it could be any one of them."

The recognition that her independent stall is at the top of the list in her industry was something that Jenny was still coming to terms with.

"It’s an amazing feeling - I love to provide the best customer service I possibly can and stock a good range of fabrics.

"People always tell me how beautiful and bright they think the new shop space is, which is lovely to hear and it makes all the hard work and sleepless nights worth while."

With the award under her belt, the future is looking bright for Jenny, who has also recently added sewing workshops to her repertoire.

She said: "The award is helpful as it will help me to gain customer confidence and extend my customer base as people read about the award in the magazine, hopefully they will visit the shop or order from the website."
