THE new landlords of the Newton Arms pub in Dalton have taken over the pub - and are hoping to serve food soon.

The previous publicans announced that they were leaving the watering hole in October 2022. The landlord of The Robin Hood on Crellin Street, Barrow, David Windsor, 59, has now taken over the Newton Arms with his partner Julie Davis.

Originally from Kendal, he has managed the Robin Hood for a year but has been in the pub trade for around 20 years. He is still the landlord of the Robin Hood but he is going to move into the flat above the Newton Arms with Julie.

David said that he has put £250,000 into refurbishing the Robin Hood, which is one of the oldest pubs in Barrow. In contrast, the Newton Arms is one of the newest pubs in Dalton, as it was opened in 1967 with the development of a large housing estate.

He said: "We knew the previous owners and the opportunity was there to serve the community in that area."

David said that the Robin Hood 'can't do food' so he is using the Newton Arms as a chance for him to run an establishment that serves grub.

He said: "We want to keep it simple more your pub grub -chicken in a basket, bit of football, bit of sport.

"We've completely changed the Robin Hood. I like a bit of a challenge. We're trying to get customers back - previous and new customers."

The Newton Arms will offer Carling, Coors, Madri, Worthington's, Guinness and a guest ale on tap. There will also be prosecco and wines on offer.

He said that the main aim of a pub is to provide 'a bit of fun for people to go and enjoy themselves'.

The pub will be a new experience for his partner Julie, who has never helped run a pub before. He said: "It's a new venture between us both. It's the first time Julie has had a pub."
