YOUNGSTERS at a Furness school got an unusual slice of work experience when they were given the skills to paint their own wall.
The Mail, on March 5 in 1994 noted: "The secrets of painting and decorating have been revealed to pupils at South Walney School.
"Pete Sadler, of Furness College's curriculum centre, took two Cumbria Tec trainers to the school to teach the children how to paint a corridor wall.
"The pupils have been doing a project on playing with paint and chose the wall to display their new talents.
"They pulled on their overalls and within a couple of hours had carried out the preparatory work."
The next stage was decorating the wall with stipple brushes and sponges.
The article noted: "The wall had previously been hidden behind bookcases and should soon be a central feature at the school."
