THERE was a job for everyone as more than 200 pupils at a Furness School put on a traditional stage show with a modern twist.

The Mail, on February 10 in 1995, noted: "Pupils at Yarlside School, Barrow, had audiences rolling in the aisles when they performed a special production of the pantomime Cinderella.

"All 207 pupils were involved in the play, Cinders, either acting on stage, singing in the choir,or working behind the scenes.

"And there was a modern twist to the traditional fairytale ending.

"Cinders found true love with Buttons — and Prince Charming ended up with one of the Ugly Sisters."

Headteacher Barbara Lowes said: "It's been a great success and an absolute sell-out.

"We've had some wonderful comments from parents.

"They thoroughly enjoyed the show, particularly the audience participation sequences."

She said: "None of the children seemed at all nervous — they tackled the comedy elements really well.

"We think we've got some stars of the future who should go on and join amateur dramatic clubs."

Cinders was played by Leila Atalla, Buttons was Sam Evans, the Ugly Sisters were Adam Taylor and Christopher Nicholaides and Prince Charming was Adam Harrison.

The production team was led by David Marcus with Claire Rigg as stage manager.
