THE family whose home became a key site for the birth of the Society of Friends, or Quakers, is the subject for the first in a new series of Saturday history talks.

David Jackson will describe the Fell family of Swarthmoor Hall from 12.45pm to 2.15pm on January 12 at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston.

All are welcome at the series of talks is by the Friends of the Coro.

On February 2 Rod White tells some of the stories behind the gravestones at Ulverston cemetery and on February 23 Robert Wheatley talks about the Kennedys of Ulverston.

On March 9 The Mail's nostalgia writer Bill Myers looks at where the town's families came from in a talk called All Roads Lead to Ulverston and on March 23 Jack Rice will describe the life and legal career of Lord Birkett of Ulverston.
