TOWN centre shoppers helped to calm a stray horse called Gemini which came to a halt in Ramsden Square after galloping down Barrow's Abbey Road back in 1989.
The Mail on December 5 noted: "The liver chestnut mare left four vehicles damaged in her wake after she bolted near Furness General Hospital.
"But happily Gemini herself suffered only a few bruises and a cut leg."
The horse threw its rider in a field, ran into Dalton Lane, down Dane Avenue and then Abbey Road.
A police spokesman said: "Fortunately the rider was not hurt, just shaken, but the horse needed a vet's attention."
