A DALTON man had a narrow escape after his car caught fire on the A590.
Firefighters rushed to the scene near Levens after receiving reports of a Jeep Cherokee that was "well alight."
The two occupants, including a 29-year-old man from Dalton, are both safely out of the car and are unharmed.
Police have closed the Eastbound carriage from the Brigsteer turn off to the Brettargh Holt roundabout but expect it will be reopened soon.
