A group of 30 volunteers who walked around Ulverston with their underwear over their clothes raised almost £900 to support the work of Cancer Research UK in its first Moonwalk.
A semi-detached house in Hollow Lane, Barrow, was offered for sale at £225,000. A detached bungalow at Summit Avenue, Barrow, was £215,000.
There was a party to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dalton’s Anchor Court retirement home.
Mayor of Ulverston Janette Jenkinson praised the town’s organisations and volunteers at the annual town meeting. Representatives of almost 30 groups were at the Coronation Hall event to receive cheques valued from £50 to £200.

Pupils from Barrow’s Abbotsmead Junior School were in the regional finals of the Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year competition.
Barrow Borough Council’s legal services manager Tim Howes was leaving to become director of legal and administrative service with Hinckley and Bosworth Council, in Leicestershire.
A terraced house in Queen Street, Barrow, was offered for sale at £36,950. A semi-detached house at Highlands Avenue, Barrow, was £19,950.
Windermere’s Frances Hay-Smith rode J.C. Henry May to victory in the novice section of the Brougham Horse Trials at Penrith.
50 YEARS AGO
A total of 837 people were without jobs in Barrow – an increase of 100 on the same month in 1968. In Dalton a total of 100 were seeking work. The unemployment figure for Barrow and Dalton was 2.9 per cent.
