STARS of the snooker world Jimmy White and John Virgo drew a packed house of 450 fans to Barrow Park Leisure Centre in 1999.
The Mail, on Monday, December 6, noted that there were challenge matches, trick shots and a fun session of impersonations by John Virgo.
The article said: "White's skill on the table saw him rattle in a brilliant century break and, just for good measure, some other big 50 plus scores at break-neck speed.
Virgo, the 1979 UK champion, started the night with a one-frame victory against Canadian seaman Sylvian Pleau by 120 points to eight.
The first of the Furness players defeated by Jimmy "the Whirlwind" White was Russ Postlethwaite, of the Travellers Rest, Barrow.
He had won the honour after scoring the best break in Furness snooker league matches.
