A TEENAGE boozer who stole £230 in spirits asked magistrates to tag her because she's "terrified" of relapsing this weekend.

Alannah Louise Andrews targeted Booths in Ulverston to steal vodka and whisky for her own consumption.

Prosecutor Mr Simon Clements said: "These were four separate days and five separate thefts of alcohol totaling £230.79.

"This defendant is developing a serious criminal record."

Andrews, 18, of Kendal, admitted theft of vodka and whisky on June 23 and July 2, 9 and twice on July 16.

Miss Maureen Fawcett, defending, said: "Miss Andrews only started coming to court when she hit 18 and all these shop thefts are alcohol related. She has been subject to domestic violence and has used drink as a way of coping and helping her through. Alcohol is a significant part of her life. She gets drunk with her friends and then goes back and steals more.

"She has self-referred to Unity because she knows she has to stop.

"She has asked me to ask the court if she can be put on a interim curfew because she is terrified that she will be tempted to drink with friends in Ulverston this weekend. She is really struggling."

Presiding chairman of magistrates, Lynne Slavin, said: "We are adjourning this case to see if we can find an alcohol treatment programme.

"At your age you are very young to have such a problem. There are a lot of people around you trying to help but you also need to take some responsibility for your actions.

"The court will be advised by the probation service on sentencing."

The case was adjourned until next Thursday.
