The organisers of a national bike ride in memory of Dave Myers have spoken about the 'phenomenal' response to plans.

Thousands of motorbike riders are set to travel from London to Barrow on June 8 to celebrate the life of the beloved TV chef and Hairy Biker.

The man putting it all together, Woody, has been asked by Dave's wife Liliana and fellow Hairy Biker Si King to spearhead efforts.

He said: "The outpouring of affection and love for Dave, Si and Lily has been absolutely amazing.

"We just need people to be patient with us now - the numbers are phenomenal and, as much as we did expect this, it has blown us all away."

Concrete plans for the event, such as a precise starting location, will be confirmed once numbers are verified as to how many people will be getting involved.

Woody added: "All I can tell you is that the ride will be going from London - it will not be the very centre of London purely for logistics.

"We have two places in mind but we're just waiting on them to get back to us and confirm how many people they can hold - safety is our number one concern."

Whilst the route is yet to be outlined, it was revealed that stops would be included so that non-riders can show their support for both the participants and Dave himself.

"The team that are involved in Barrow are creating what can only be described as something that's going to be absolutely amazing," said Woody.

"The amount of support I've had personally from people contacting me from Barrow to offer their venues and parking has been truly phenomenal."

Woody asked that all riders visited the events tab on their Facebook group and register their interest, allowing the team to estimate how many people will be taking part.

He added: "After this day, you won't say that 'I'm having a good day' anymore - you'll say 'I'm having a Dave day'."
