FROM royalty to a Hollywood movie star and several soap actors, it’s been another busy year of celebrities making an appearance in South Cumbria.

We’ve taken a look back on the most famous faces.

  • Princess Anne

Her Royal Highness came to Barrow on November 15 to give a royal seal of approval to the first ever university campus in the town.

The Princess Royal arrived to the dockside site where the campus is to be constructed where she learned more about how the campus and then shovelled some soil.

The Mail:

  • Hugh Jackman

The Hollywood movie star was spotted by staff members at the Watermill Inn and Brewery in the village of Ings in September this year.

The actor, famous for starring as Wolverine in the Marvel franchise, was taking time off work and was kind enough to stop and take pictures.

  • Bill Roache

Famous for playing Ken Barlow in Coronation Street, 91-year-old Bill skydived from 15,000ft at Cark airfield.

The longest-ever serving soap star did the skydive in order to raise money for Stride for Truth.

Describing the occasion, he said: “I know how birds feel now – I need a cup of tea.”

  • Leyla Harding

Emmerdale’s Roxy Shahidi was pictured collecting her brand new all-electric Fiat 500 from DSG Ltd on Ironworks Road in Barrow.

Announcing the news of her visit on Facebook, the company said: “Thank you Roxy for choosing DSG Barrow to supply the vehicle and for making the journey up to collect.”

  • Hamza Yassin

The Cbeebies presenter famous, known for his role as ‘Ranger Hamza’, stayed for three nights at the Whitewater Hotel at Backbarrow.

Vasile Pavalascu, pub landlord of the nearby Anglers Arms, then welcomed the former Strictly Come Dancing winner into their establishment.

He said: “My wife Daniela went and got a picture. It’s not everyday a celebrity walks into your pub. It was extraordinary to be fair.”

  • Sam Ashton

The soap star, who has played Chesney Brown in Coronation Street since 2003, described his visit to South Cumbria with his family as the ‘perfect getaway’.

Sam posted pictures on his Instagram account of him at the two-bed Little Barn Cottage, near Grange, the Old Post Office in Cartmel and others of his family on the beach.

  • Liz McClarnon

The Atomic Kitten singer tied the knot at Broadoaks Country House in Windermere with her partner Peter.

McClarnon was pictured in a Bardot neckline bridal gown kissing on the steps of the church surrounded by confetti.
