A STRICTLY Come Dancing winner has been pictured with fans in The Lake District.

Hamza Yassin, widely known as being a presenter on CountryFile and Animal Park for the BBC, was recognised by staff and members of the public at The Whitewater Hotel in Newby Bridge.

The twentieth winner of Strictly Come Dancing stayed three nights at the hotel with a film and recording crew as he prepared to shoot the latest installment of CBeebies hit Let’s Go for a Walk in Carlisle.

David Hair, general manager of the Whitewater Hotel, said: “We didn’t know he was coming. We didn’t overreact to it but it was a pleasure to have him stay with us.

"My colleagues spoke with him and they said he was very happy to speak with the staff and customers at the hotel."

The CBeebies celebrity, known for his role as 'Ranger Hamza', was also spotted at the Anglers Arms in Haverthwaite, just one mile down the road.

Vasile Pavalascu, pub landlord at the Anglers Arms, welcomed him and the crew into his establishment twice.

He said: “To be fair at first, we didn’t know who he was. It wasn’t until one of the guests told us who he was that people started interacting with him. He was really friendly and very polite with everyone.

“My wife Daniela went and got a picture. It’s not ever yday a celebrity walks into your pub. It was extraordinary to be fair."

The British wildlife cameraman has also written a book based on the CBeebies series, as well as presenting a one-off Channel Four documentary called Scotland: My Life in the Wild.
