Millom 30 Drighlington 12

MILLOM managed to bounce back from their East Leeds defeat to claim the spoils in their National Conference Division Two mid-table clash with Drighlington.

As they have done in their previous home games this season, the Woollybacks started at a high intensity.

They dominated the early proceedings and deservedly took the lead when, on nine minutes, Ethan Kelly found a gap from short range and off-loaded smartly to Adam Kelly, who touched down underneath the sticks. This made it an easy two points for Lee Postlethwaite.

It was not until the 30th minute when the next points arrived. Millom turned down the two on offer from 30 metres out. The decision proved correct when Adam Kelly turned provider to dart clear from dummy-half and offload to Joe Shaw, who crossed from short range. Postlethwaite added the extras and it was 12-0.

Just before half-time, impressive youngster Kyle Evans sent man-of-the-match Joseph Wright steaming on to the ball to cross from close range.

The last action in the half saw Adam Kelly trying to add two more points from the halfway line, but his penalty attempt missed and Millom led 16-0.

The hosts raced out of the blocks in the second-half, and in the 42nd minute Kyle Evans produced a clever kick to the corner to send Connor Sykes over. Postlethwaite added the extras from the touchline.

Postlethwaite then crossed in the corner, and on 56 minutes Jonathan Hodgson took advantage of the extra man through the sin-binning of the visitors’ Michael Sanderson to find a way over the line from close range to make it 30-0.

The visitors did get their reward when, on 70 minutes, their man-of-the-match, Thomas Moorby, crossed in the corner when Millom’s defence could not hold out, with Sanderson converting.

It was not long until they scored again asmore poor defence allowed Luke Smithson to cross, with Sanderson adding the extras to make it 30-12 – but it was too little, too late.
