HINDPOOL Tigers got back to winning ways with a 28-18 home win over Pilkington Recs A.

The Tigers were always in the driving seat although they allowed the visitors to hit back with two late converted tries.

Hindpool took the game to the St Helens side with a charging run from the hard-working Peter Rimmer which resulted in Nathan Sneesby going close before the tackles ran out.

Pilkingtons raided in a counter-attack with hooker Josh Lynch heading for the line before a textbook tackle from Connor McDermott hauled him down.

At the other end Chris Reid set up a raid, parting to Paul Rickleton who put Sneesby into space, but a great tackle from scrum half Owen Abel halted his progress.

On 19 minutes the Tigers went ahead. A sweeping attack was rounded off with Rickleton touching down for McDermott to convert.

It was soon 10-0 as the Tigers kept the ball alive and it was Sneesby in at the corner.

A further try was denied as Connor Goodings was bundled into touch on the flag.

The Pilks came close through centre Dave Hynn who got into space and headed for what looked like a certain four-pointer, but a great cover tackle from McDermott brought him down.

Three minutes from the break Pilks were on the scoreboard. A strong drive from prop Jon Keyze took him to the line from where substitute Joe Chow touched down. The goal came via the boot of stand-off Rob Marsh.

Two minutes into the second half and the home side increased their lead.

Jamie McIlroy put Lee Boyd through a gap and McDermott was on hand to cross the whitewash. He also tagged on the goal for 16-6. Pilks almost responded when centre Hynn raced down the touchline, only to put a foot in touch.

On the hour mark came further points for the Tigers. Matt Preston was stopped short and from the play the ball Sneesby sent Goodings in at the corner. He also belted over a touchline goal for 22-6.

Pilks worked hard for points but the Tigers defence stood firm for long periods with Chris Tyson defusing a dangerous kick to the corner.

More points came from Lee Boyd who came on the burst to a McIlroy pass to score despite the attention of three defenders, Goodings adding the goal for 28-6.

However, the Saints side rounded off the scoring with late tries through Jack Litherland and Chow, with Marsh adding two goals.

Ulverston cruised to a 56-28 win over Leigh East A at Dragley Beck after leading 28-18 at the break.

Connor Saunders was again the man in form crossing for a hat-trick of tries and kicking eight goals from ten attempts.

Other tries came from Dinger Bell, 2, Brad Wilkinson, 2, Dan Crabtree, Scott Houston and Kieran Potter.

Barrow Island pulled off a great 30-24 win at National Conference Division Three high-fliers Clock Face.

Island played their best rugby of the season, with Matt Parkinson and Carl McBain leading the way.

Island lost Blain Marwood early in the second half picking up a dead leg in a tackle following a 40-yard break from inside his own half.

Tries came via Jonathan Walsh, 2, Sam Jones, 2, Josh Banham and Jake Carter who added three goals.

All at Island congratulate long-serving centre Sam Jones who has been selected for the BARLA tour to Fiji later this year.

Askam suffered their third away defeat on the road, going down 44-12 at Crosfields in Division Two. Askam’s tries came from Sam Broadley and Russ Bolton with Kris Tyson adding two goals.

Millom came out second best against National Conference Division Three leaders Beverley who kept their 100 per cent record intact with a 28-18 win at Devonshire Road.

Tries for the Woollybacks came via Jonny Hodgson, Ethan Kelly and Noah Robinson with four goals from Lee Postlethwaite.

In the North West Men’s League Division One leaders Walney lost their 100 per cent record going down 30-22, despite a hat-trick from Matty Holmes. Ethan Furness also touched down with Jordan Staffieri and Josh Holmes adding the goals.
