PROSPECTIVE whistle-blowers have the chance to learn all about the ins and outs of refereeing when the Barrow and District Rugby League Referees Society hold their latest course next month.

The course will take place at the Sports and Social Club, Uiverston, on Saturday, July 22 from 9.30am until 12pm, with nine people already signed up and other places still available.

All are welcome to attend, whether they have ambitions to officiate in Super League or referee within their club, along with being able to access support from the society.

“The course is open to anyone that wants to become a referee or just an awareness of the rules,” said Barrow and District chairman Terry Barker. “It is also a recognised course with a certificate

“We are looking at training personnel up to run the line as touch judges in the National Conference League and developing young referees to reach the standard required to referee the youth finals at Wembley as well.”

The society have their latest development night tomorrow evening, starting at 7pm at Hindpool Tigers’ Brisbane Park ground.

“The development nights were held at Leeds and the referees who wanted to progress had to travel once a month midweek on a Wednesday night,” said Barker.

“The development nights are now held locally, and this is of a great benefit to the referees as they can work until 6pm and still make the development nights without all the travel.”

Anyone interested in the course or any other aspects of the society can contact Barker on 01229 830698.
