THE first South Cumbrian derby of the Cumbria League season dominates proceedings this weekend.

Windermere host Furness, with both sides eager for victory to kickstart their season.

Elsewhere, Hawcoat Park face a tough trip to Oldham and Ambleside are hoping their trip to Aspatria goes ahead.

WINDERMERE v FURNESS

(Dawes Meadow, 3pm)

WINDERMERE and Furness take to the field both languishing near the bottom of the Cumbria League and looking for a change of fortune.

Mere go strong and are able to field a near-full-strength side.

The front row has Jamie Hardman, Dan Harrison and Leigh Todd, with former Furness player Tagdh Butler partnering Johnny Benson in the second row.

The back row sees Matt Powell, John Sheasby and Joe Turner take the reigns.

Dan Nield and Bertie Hodgeson are the half-back pairing, with the finishing prowess of wide men Moses Dawson and Tom Aktinson on show for all to see.

Centre field sees Jack Holmes and Sam James looking to take all opportunities, with full back Andrew Duncan more than capable on his day.

Furness are missing key men Joe Mallinson, Arron Pike and Andy Brannon, but welcome back Dillon Tapatu, whose drive and tenacity will be a big bonus.

Rhys Studt leads the troops into battle, along with Steve Perry whose kicking will be key.

Paul Dean and hooker Cameron Mclure are a handful at the best of times in the front row, and with Corne Els as well, Windermere could be in for a tough afternoon.

Alex Mason will be looking to continue his role in the team, along with Alex Brown.

Ben Hughes had a great game last week in the defeat to Whitehaven and his colleagues will be looking for more of the same.

Former Barrow Raiders RL player Mike Backhouse has what it takes to make a difference, as does the inspirational Tez Nueto in what promises to be a tug-of-war for the points.

OLDHAM v HAWCOAT PARK

AFTER a great home win against Littleborough last week, Hawcoat travel to North Lancs/Cumbria table-toppers Oldham.

The Maroon and Whites have skipper Dan White moving to the second row to partner with the superb Ash Mowatt.

In front of them, Jason Priss, Adam Grainger and Ryan Milner look to control the set-piece, with the dynamic back row made up of Callum Ramsey, Johnny Burrows and vice-captain Will Mallinson.

Will Coles and Glenn Kaigan are on the wings and have duo Grady Slater and Chris Burns for company in the centres.

Jack Shannon gets a run at scrum half, linking with James Howden as last week's stand-off Scott Kaigan switches to full-back.

With a strong bench of John Donnan, Mike Lightfoot and Jack Sutherland, they have every chance.

HAWCOAT PARK A v BOLTON

(Hawcoat Park, 3pm)

HAWCOAT A host Bolton as they look to keep their unbeaten run going.

Last week saw them progress in the Raging Bull Cup and fingers are crossed a good win tomorrow will see them move up the league.

A back line with Dan Armitstead, Dave Whitehead, JD Crowe, Dave Wynne and Matt Betteny is going to be a handful for any team.

Paul Woodburn take the ropes from prop, with new boy Andy Thompson throwing his hat in the ring for the cause.

Austin Meadows joins Joe Rea in a young, strong, pacy partnership as the team looks to go from strength to strength.

Sayle brothers, Rory and Lewis, should be on hand to shore things up further.

ASPATRIA v AMBLESIDE

AMBLESIDE were let down last week, so they have everything crossed the game away at Aspatria goes ahead.

They go virtually unchanged, but await late fitness checks on influential players Alfie White and Keenen Longster ,who both have ankle problems.

Matt Burrow will be looking for good ball at stand-off to get Ben and Steve Matthews away in the centres.

The back row will be hopeful White is fit to join Greg Machino and Rory Seekings in pursuit of loose ball at the breakdown.

Skipper Paul Longster will be looking to second-row team-mate Andrew Clayton to back him up, with the front three of Mike Gibson, Pip Houghton and Paul Aires never far from the action.

With pace-setters Tim Horsfall and Rory Townsend on the park, scoring opportunities are never far away.

MILLOM A v FURNESS A

(Wilson Park, 3pm)

WITH no first-team fixture, Millom seconds welcome close rivals Furness.

Kevin Rogan starts in the front row, with Tony Swales and Dave Chatham as partners in crime.

Callum Loughran is in the second row with Aiden Woodburn, while Joe Fisher, Steve Long and Theo Blackburn are never far from the action.

Young Robbie Pattinson will be looking to show his skills, along with fly-half Chris Park.

Toby Inham and Mark Tyson will look to get plenty of ball, along with centres Jordan Moyes and Dave Thompson, and a strong bench backs up the hard work the club has done in getting the team up and running again.

There was no team sheet available from Furness, but they will be looking to put a competitive team on the pitch.
