KIRKBY or Walney Park A are fighting it out for the Sharples Letting Furness & District Bowling League Division Three title,with the villagers leading by three points but the islanders having a game in hand.
Red River A have six matches to play in 17 days, which might affect their chances of closing a 31-point gap with Kirkby and 28 with Walney Park.
Malcolm Cleasby, 21-2, was one of five single-figure winners as Kirkby collected 11 points at home to Roose Community B, but despite Cleasby winning again at West Mount, 21-9, it did not stop the leaders losing 9-5.
Walney Park A had six single-figure winners and two walkovers in their 12-2 win against Roose Community B, with John Howard, 21-4, Geoff Stubbs and Lee Smith, 21-6, being the best for them.
Dave Pullin won 21-3, but Red River A still had a dent inflicted to their title hopes by losing 9-5 at West Mount, whose best returns were by Barry Morrow, 21-5, and Dave Vickers, 21-9.
Ged Bartlett prevented Walney Park B from being whitewashed at Glaxo SC A.
Wins of 21-6 from Dave Thompson and 21-9 by both Martin Carpenter and Ray Smith helped Salthouse B beat Hawcoat Park C 9-6, with Jimmy Tongue, 21-9, the hosts’ best.
West Shore A and Co-op SC B both only had 11 players as their end-of-season clash went to the Dane Avenue outfit 10-4.
