ULVERSTON Tri Club are celebrating more successes with two top-10 finishes in the Windermere standard distance triathlon.
Duncan Eley finished as runner-up in Sunday's event – his time of two hours, 19 minutes and three seconds less than a minute behind winner Chris Stirling (2:18:11), the Ambleside-based competitor who is regarded as one of Britain's top extreme athletes.
Eley – who finished 16th in a strong international field at the recent Leeds Open Standard Distance race – led the way after the swim section, completing the 1,500m loop from Cockshott Point, Bowness, in a super-fast 17:45.
Stirling was in seventh place after leaving the Windermere water, but he posted the fastest bike time of 1:16:38 for the 26.2km anti-clockwise ride round England's largest lake to get his nose in front.
The 10km run consisted of five laps of the Glebe, and Stirling posted a time of 38:17 to keep Eley's valiant efforts at bay.
Not far behind was Eley's UTC club-mate Kie Jackson, who followed up his recent victory in the Coniston standard distance triathlon with an eighth-placed finish in 2:26:06.
Fellow UTC member Ben Park was also celebrating as he finished 19th in 2:32:04, while club-mates Wayne Singleton (3:07:21) and Annaliese Sales (3:10:25) also got round the tough circuit.
