ROUNDERS teams came together to remember two Furness sportswomen with a special tournament.

The Hool Whillance Charity Family Rounders Tournament was held in memory of Sue Hool and Alison Whillance, who both helped raise participation and awareness of women’s sport in the area.

The Barrow and District Women’s Rounders League organised a day of activities at St Bernard’s School to raise funds for St Mary’s Hospice and the North West Air Ambulance.

There were several trophies up for grabs on a day packed with action, with teams made up of Sue and Alison’s family and friends, along with ex-students, current league players and people who have not played rounders since their school days competing in the sunshine.

In the end, the rain came and while a clear winner was showing in the mixed tournament, there was a swingball play-off for the cup.

Paige Livingston and Liz White duked it out to be mixed champions and it was Livingstone who reigned supreme, winning the cup for her team, Scared Hitless, who had been a force to be reckoned with throughout the day.

The organisers thanked JL Winder and Co Chartered Accountants, who supplied the trophies, St Bernard’s School for use of their facilities, Karen Griffiths for her organisation, all umpires, all who donated cakes, raffle prizes and their time and Bellybusters A590 Catering and LA Ice Cream for providing refreshments.
