ENGLAND star Georgia Stanway will be cheering on her Manchester City team-mates from afar tomorrow as they bid to win the Women's Super League.

Stanway is with the national Under-17s side in Jordan ahead of the World Cup, which starts on Friday.

As a result, she is missing a key part of City's season, with victory over Chelsea at the Academy Stadium this weekend guaranteeing them the title.

The 17-year-old Furness strike ace has played her part in getting the club to the brink of claiming the crown, scoring six goals during the season, including a memorable hat-trick against Sunderland.

Stanway has also helped her club reach the final of the Continental Tyres Cup, when they will play Birmingham next weekend. That is another match the talented youngster will miss as a result of her international commitments – England Under-17s play North Korea the day before in their first group game – but it is a sacrifice she feels is worth making.

“It's unfortunate that I'm missing big games like the Chelsea one and the Continental Cup final, but the fact that I'm going to a World Cup speaks for itself,” said Stanway, who jetted out to Jordan with the England squad this week.

“I'll be rooting for the girls, hoping they can keep up what they have been doing. If I can't watch the game, I'll be constantly refreshing Twitter to see what's happening.”
