Conroy was supposed to fight Cooper last February for the British Challenge title, but the Darlington fighter pulled out on medical grounds, with the 24-year-old BAE Systems mechanical engineer beating his replacement, Krzysztof Golec, on points to land his first professional title.
Cooper, 30, has four wins from his six pro bouts, while Conroy has eleven victories and a draw from 15 contests. The fight will take at Chorley’s Park Hall Hotel on Saturday, March 4, with Conroy in good shape under Preston-based trainer Johnney Roye.
“The hard training started on Boxing Day and because I was ticking over before then I’m feeling very good,” he said.
Boxers from the Furness area’s two amateur clubs – Barrow ABC and Furness Catholic ABC – are set to be in action at tomorrow’s annual South Lakeland Freemasons show at Grange’s Cumbria Grand Hotel.
