Kendal 2nds 0 South Lakes 16

SOUTH Lakes ran riot in Kendal to move three points clear at the top of the Cumbria League and do their goal-difference no end of goal.

They showed no mercy against the division's bottom club, inflicting their hosts' second-biggest defeat of the season, behind only Keswick's 19-0 success in September.

Anna Stable led the way, firing home four goals, all from open-play, while two penalty corner strikes from Holly Nuttall helped her to a hat-trick, with Gemma Jupp also helping herself to three in the rampage.

The visitors immediately put the pressure on and were in Kendal's D from the outset, but initially they struggled to find the back of the goal, with some fantastic saves from the home keeper.

Jupp broke the deadlock after great build-up play from player-of-the-match Emma Armstrong and Stable and that opened the floodgates.

Minutes later, Lakes were awarded a short corner which led to a direct shot on goal by captain Nuttall finding the target.

She quickly added her second goal, again from a strike at the top of the D from another short corner.

Just 18 minutes in, the fourth goal came after some skilful play by Catherine Cooke, Rebecca Cook and Stable.

Cooke played the ball into Jupp from the top of the D for her to deflect it into the goal.

Number five arrived as Cook dribbled the ball up and played out to Armstrong, who put Stable in for her first of the afternoon.

The build-up for the sixth started at the back, as switching of the ball between Suze Armstrong, Lesley Davey and Rebekah Nuttall saw the latter find Cook. She played to Natalie Knowles, who had a one-two with Cooke before finishing off.

There was still time for two more goals before the break, with Nuttall setting Stable for the first and the same player hitting home number eight.

It did not take long for the same pattern to emerge after half-time.

Two minutes in, Emma Armstrong dribbled the length of the pitch into the D and scored a fine individual goal.

Jupp had her third of the game not long after, and South Lakes continued to put on the pressure, with some great passes around the back and carried forward.

Gayle Mawdsley made a comeback after a knee injury and played the ball into Stable for her fourth goal of the game, before defender Suze Armstrong was on the scoresheet after playing the ball into Cook and collecting it again as it was deflected back into her path.

Lakes keeper Joy Potter was getting cold after only touching the ball twice throughout the whole match, but at the other end Knowles scored the 13th after a good pass from Jupp.

Cook then dribbled the hall down the line and into the D to net the next, before Nuttall added another with a skilful run around players into the D and past the keeper.

Cooke rounded things off with final goal after a great pass in by Lesley Davey.

Things will be tougher for South Lakes this weekend, as they travel to second-placed Penrith, who lost their own 100 per cent record with a 4-1 defeat at Wigton on Saturday.
