BARROW girl Aimee Everett has a date in Latvia this weekend, as she pulls on the jersey for England Under-17s.

The talented teenager, part of the set-up as Women's Super League side Liverpool, is part of the squad in the Baltic for the European Championship qualifiers.

The Young Lionesses face the host nation on Saturday, followed by matches against Slovakia on Tuesday and Scotland on Friday.

It will be a first competitive appearance at under-17s level for Everett, who has represented her country at younger age levels before, and who is following in the footsteps of fellow South Cumbrians Georgia Stanway and Kelsey Pearson.

The top two nations from the group will advance to final qualifying, with the championships itself taking place in Lithuania next May.

Asked what she thought the competition would be like in Latvia, Everett joked: “Freezing!”

She added: “These are teams, like Latvia and Slovakia, who I have never played before. It will be something new, but challenging as well, because it's the European Championships qualifiers and it will be real competition.

“Different teams play in different ways, so we will have to get used to that.

“It's a big competition, the Euros, and I'm really excited to go and be part of it. Hopefully, we can go and win.

“We're hoping to top the group to go through to the finals.”

Everett joined Liverpool earlier in the year from Blackburn Rovers, and has been part of the reserves set-up so far this season, coming off the bench for game time at what she accepts is a whole new level.

The former St Bernard's School pupil said: “It's a huge step up from Blackburn.

“It's been good to play there, because they give you lots of opportunities to train with the first team as well.

“Even with the reserves, I'm the youngest in the team, so it's a lot more challenging having stepped up from under-16s, where I was the oldest.”

She added: “I can see a difference in how I'm playing already. I've not been a regular starter, but I've been getting game-time, which is what you'd expect as most of the players are a lot older.

“We're hoping to go on and win the league and hopefully at least get to the final in the cup as well.”
