WEST Indian professional Dalton Polius scored his third century of the North Lancs League Division One season as Haverigg got back to winning ways against Ulverston.

Winning the toss the Poolsiders decided to bat at Priory Road, and after a good start by openers Robert Bell, 31, and skipper Drew Postlethwaite, 69, Polius hit 11 fours and six sixes on his way to an unbeaten 113 in a 50 overs total of 258 for 5.

Gareth Yates returned a more than creditable 2 for 32 in his 15 overs.

Ulverston would be disappointed with their reply, being all out in the 35th over for 107.

Almost 550 runs were scored at Millom where Workington A were put in to bat and ran up a mammoth 323 for 3.

Callum Sutton, with 209 not out, broke the Division One individual batting record beating the previous best of 203 not out, made by Keswick pro Jason Young back in 2000, the first year of the new league structure.

The highest previous score by an amateur had been 161 made by Keswick’s John Mason.

In reply Millom were all out for 223, Ian Swarbrick top scoring with 87.

Seascale batted first at Carlisle and were 141 for 5 at tea mainly due to Joe Hammond’s 56 not out, and Robin Sparshott’s 36. Marc Brown took 3 for 19 in nine overs.

In reply Carlisle went to the win in the 34th over making 145 for 6, skipper Marc Brown making 55, and Paul Glascott 33. Seascale’s Andrew Knott returned 3 for 35 in 9.3 overs.

Lindal Moor had first knock at Kirkby and were 245 for 7 at tea. In reply Kirkby produced a great effort with the bat, but were all out in the 44th over for 215.

After losing an early wicket, Keswick recovered well going to 217 all out in the 49th over of their Premier Division match against Whitehaven.

Geeth Kumara, with 57, and Ben Sharp, with 34, led the way, and four other batsmen went past 20. Whitehaven’s Dalen Mmako took 4 for 68 in 13 overs.

After a moderate start, Jamie Bell, with 48, and Adam McGarry, 25, made some sort of recovery but nobody else got into double figures, and Whitehaven were all out in the 35th over for 127. Geeth Kumara returned a remarkable 8 for 18 in 10.5 overs.

Batting first Workington gave a good performance against Dalton, and with Callum Moffat making 72 and Kaushalya Gajasinghe, 62, the home side were 268 for 6 at tea.

In reply despite a battling 54 from Liam Curwen, Dalton were all out for 142, and Workington now have maximum points from the first five games.

Visitors Wigton again went past 200, being 205 for 5 at Cleator.

Michael Holliday led the way with 79 not out, well supported by Angus Harman with 52.

But Cleator also enjoyed the good batting track, going to the win with 211 for 7, Darren Clark, 49, Daryll Brown, 48, and Tom Sharpe, 46, ensuring another ten points.

At Furness Park the home side were 214 for 7 after their 50 overs, In reply, mainly due to Matthew Sempill’s 98, Cockermouth were 185 for 7.

Dalton A had first knock against Furness A and after losing two early wickets, recovered well to be 240 for 5 at tea, Mike Walker making 90, and Declan Kell 73 not out. For Furness Josh Shaw took 3 for 39 in nine overs.

For the second successive Saturday Furness were blown away for a low score, being all out for 58 in 20 overs. Matthew Holmes, 5 for 10, Keith Gilliland, 3 for 12, and Robert Bamber, 2 for 10, ensured an early finish.

Cockermouth batted first against Vickerstown and made a bad start with numbers two and three back in the shed without scoring.

Liam Jackson, with 49, and Jack Edmondson, with 39, got their side back on course. But after them, only Kurt Chastney, with 24, troubled Vickerstown and they were 140 all out in the 47th over.

Gareth Benson took 4 for 26 in 15 overs and George Scott 3 for 31 in 13 overs, keeping Vickerstown in control.

In reply opener Craig Daly was unbeaten on 60, and with support from Benson, with 30, and Matthew Roskell, 20, took the Walney side to a good win at 141 for 3.

Put into bat against Cleator A the Moor’s top order gave their side a good start but the last six batsmen only made 25 between them and they were all out for 149 in the 39th over.

Cleator veteran Alan Wishart took 7 for 40 in 12 overs. Cleator had no problems when batting, opener Gary Hall making 55 not out and Mark Ponticelli 69 not out to see the visitors to 151 for 2 in the 29th over for a good win.

Hawcoat Park were all out for just 36 against Egremont who made it to 38 without loss in just 34 balls.

* BARROW went top of the Northern League after easing to an eight-wicket victory over Darwen at Ernest Pass. Indian professional Kaustubh Pawar was the star of the show for Barrow scoring an unbeaten 80 as the home side reached a winning total of 137 for 2. Pawar was well supported by skipper Toby Mowat, with 30, and Dean Williams with 20 not out. Earlier the Barrow bowling department had done a good job by dismissing the East Lancashire side for 135. Daryl Wearing took 3 for 25, Greg Reynolds 3 for 34, Gary Collins 2 for 9 and Javed Khan 2 for 51. Barrow A team lost their Division Two match by four wickets at Darwen A.
