MANAGER Paul Cox hopes a big crowd can help Barrow AFC make it three wins out for three at Holker Street tomorrow.

While the Bluebirds have yet to record an away win in three attempts so far this season, their home form has been impeccable.

Cox's men got their National League season off to an excellent start three weeks ago with a 1-0 win over Aldershot on home turf, and they followed this up with a 3-2 victory over Chester.

Now Barrow have Braintree in their sights as they try and bounce back from last weekend's 3-1 defeat at Dover and consolidate their mid-table standing.

Cox was disappointed with some fans' angry reactions immediately after the Dover game and called for calm in light of the the fact the 46-match long haul of the National League campaign is just five games old.

The manager - who transformed AFC's fortunes during the second half of last season with an impressive run of results - believes he has the full backing of the vast majority of Holker Street regulars, and he wants to hear them in good voice tomorrow.

"It would be lovely to have a big home crowd," said Cox.

"Our supporters have been brilliant since I have been at the club. It would be great to get a big crowd, but more importantly put a good performance on and get a good result for them."

With six points up for grabs - the Braintree game is followed by a Bank Holiday Monday trip to North Ferriby - a winning weekend could really kick-start Barrow's season.

But rather than speculate on the possibility of a maximum points haul, Cox is focusing solely on getting his team doing the simple things right and making themselves difficult to beat. The boss was unhappy with the manner of the three goals conceded at Dover, and as a result defensive drills were a high priority at training this week.

"It's a case of getting back on the horse and getting back to doing what we are good at. That is the major thing," he said.

"Every weekend is a big weekend. It doesn't matter to me who we are playing Saturday and who we are playing Monday.

"When you have lost a game and people have got upset, the best thing to do is get back on the training ground and work extremely hard and try and put things right.

"It is going to be an extremely long season and the more we learn as we go on the stronger we will become and the less times what happened on Saturday will happen again."
