BARROW AFC will renew rivalries with FC Halifax Town and Ebbsfleet United next season after both were promoted to the National League.

Halifax defeated Chorley 2-1 after extra-time in the National League North play-off final, while Ebbsfleet came from behind to beat Chelmsford City 2-1 in National League South.

Barrow will also be taking on Tranmere Rovers against next term, after they lost the National League play-off final against Forest Green Rovers 3-1 at Wembley.

Forest Green will play in the Football League for the first time in their history after on-loan winger Kaiyne Woolery – who joined them just a day after a deal to bring him to Holker Street appeared to be done and dusted early in the year – netted a brace at the national stadium.

Woolery gave the Gloucestershire side a 1-0 lead before a 20-yard stunner from Connor Jennings levelled matters for Tranmere. Two more goals before half-time, one from top-scorer Christian Doidge and another from Woolery made it 3-1 and it stayed that way until the end.

Halfiax, relegated from the National League last season, made an immediate return after they overcame a tough Chorley challenge at the Shay.

After a goalless first half, Fax – who knocked Barrow out of the FA Trophy last season, on their way to winning the cup at Wembley – took the lead through Kevin Roberts just after the break.

Chorley – who had former Bluebird Jason Walker coming off the bench after 58 minutes – levelled on the hour through a fine free-kick from Adam Blakeman, but Town regained their place in the National League as Scott Garner headed home in the second half of extra-time.

Last season, the home team won all three encounters between Barrow and Halifax, with the West Yorkshire side triumphing 3-1 in the league at the Shay, before AFC responded with a 4-1 Easter Monday thumping at Holker Street, with Walker, Andy Cook, Jordan Williams and Ben Tomlinson all scoring.

Ebbsfleet followed champions Maidenhead United in claiming promotion from National League South.

The Kent team – beneficiaries of huge investment from Kuwaiti backers – were down to 10 men and fell 1-0 behind as Chelmsford's Bagasan Graham netted.

But Dave Winfield and Darren McQueen scored in the space of five minutes to send the Fleet back to the National League for the first time since 2013, when they finished a place below Barrow, as both were relegated.

The Bluebirds drew 1-1 at Holker Street that season thanks to an Adam Boyes goal, but beat Ebbsfleet 4-2 in Kent.
