NEW Barrow AFC boss Ady Pennock is keen to bring in his own backroom staff.

He played a supporting role to interim manager Neill Hornby on Saturday as AFC earned an excellent and much-needed 3-1 victory over Aldershot at Holker Street thanks to Adi Yussuf’s hat-trick.

Pennock says he has started sounding out potential candidates for backroom staff roles, but he is “keeping that close to his chest” for the time being.

“I want to get it right. There is no point in rushing things that need to be done properly,” said the former Forest Green and Gillingham boss.

Will it mean a place for the acting manager, Neill Hornby?

“Well I have known Neil for a long time,” said Pennock. “He is a good man and has done well at other clubs. He knows his football.

“I couldn’t believe he was here. When I went to speak to Andrew (Casson, the managing director), Neil popped his head round the corner and asked ‘What are you doing here?’

“He is a good man, but has decisions to make.”

The triumph over Aldershot – Barrow’s first National League win in ten games – was the perfect start for Pennock, especially as AFC have no game now until Saturday November 11, when Macclesfield Town are the visitors to Holker Street.

“I wish we had a game on Tuesday,” said Pennock, in light of the the excellent performance against high-flying Aldershot.

“However, you can go on a run and go 10 games unbeaten and think you have cracked football – but you would be wrong. That’s the beauty of the game.

“We are all managers. Whatever happens, we are all managers. All those at the ground today could be saying: ‘I don’t think Ady should have picked him’ – that’s why we love this fantastic game.

“It can put smiles on our faces or leave us grumpy if things don’t go right.”
