BARROW AFC boss Pete Wild says it’s all about focus ahead of this weekend’s visit from Gillingham.

The Bluebirds suffered a disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of non-league outfit Maidstone United last Saturday – going down 2-1.

But Wild says he and his team need to be looking forward not back, starting with the visit of Stephen Clemence’s side to Holker Street on Saturday.

He said: “You’ve got to look at the next game, and keep churning out what’s the next game, what’s the next game.

“We are now coming into a period where we’re playing the teams around us (in the League Two table), which will be a very tough period for us.

“So we have to make sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves and really focus in on the next game.

“We go into these games wanting to be the best version of ourselves, but we know it’s not going to come easily, the results are not going to easily, and we have got to make sure we keep going.”

The Bluebirds currently sit third in the League Two table, having won their last five league games on the bounce.

Wild admits it’s great position to be in, but he’s not taking anything for granted.

“Every team at every level has a bump, and there will be a bump in the road along the way,” he added.

“Having the points on the board really helps you when you do have those moments that don’t go your way.

“So I’d rather have those points on the board, and I’d rather be in a position of strength than trying to chase and catch up, and not having the points on the board.”

This weekend will be another tough test for Wild’s side.

Gillingham are just six points behind Barrow on 31 points and currently occupy the final play-off spot.

They come into the league clashed buoyed by a 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup last weekend.

Gills boss Clemence was delighted with both the result and performance last weekend, but says his focus is now firmly on facing Barrow this Saturday.
