PETE Wild has said that he is 'desperate' for Barrow to win in the FA Cup second round.

After securing their place in the second round proper of the historic competition with an emphatic 3-1 against Northampton Town, the Bluebirds prepare to take on National League South Maidstone United at the Gallagher Stadium.

The Barrow boss is no stranger to the FA Cup, with a victory against Claudio Ranieri's Fulham whilst in caretaker charge of Oldham Athletic in 2019 kick-starting Wild's managerial career.

Ahead of the Bluebirds' second-round clash in Kent, Wild shared his personal feelings about the FA Cup and opportunity it provides lower league clubs.

He said: "This cup means everything, it is the figurehead of English football in my eyes, it is the pinnacle.

"Any lower league side in this country wants to do well in the FA Cup, want to have that day in the sun, as a fan they want to have that day in the sun and want to go out to a massive club and see their team go toe-to-toe with a massive club, so it means everything.

"It would mean everything on Saturday to win and stay in the competition into the new year and you know if you are in the competition in the new year you have got every chance of pulling a big gun out of the hat.

"We are desperate to win on Saturday and desperate to be the best version of ourselves on Saturday."
