The players of Barrow Raiders' ladies rugby team have been labelled as an 'inspiration' for aspiring fans.
Westmorland and Furness Council came out in praise of the squad after they earned promotion to the women's Super League.
Barrow Ladies came from behind to beat Leigh Leopards Women 14-8 in the promotion play-off final at York’s LNER Community Stadium.
A council spokesman said: "You've done the whole town proud and you're an inspiration to young players across Westmorland and Furness."
With less than 15 minutes left to play in the match, Jodie Morley came up with the decisive try which will see the team compete in Group 1 of the Super League next season.
The hope is that children in the area - especially girls - will see the success and get involved in the sport going forward.
