BARROW AFC midfielder Kian Spence has won League Two's August Goal of the Month award.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Bluebirds from Halifax Town during the summer transfer window, bagged the award for his stunning volley against Tranmere Rovers which earned Barrow their first victory of the season on the opening weekend.

Spence has already showcased his ability to net a spectacular strike, with this goal at Prenton Park proving award-worthy, and the young midfielder also fired home a winning rocket against Harrogate Town when the Bluebirds were last in League Two action.

Speaking after winning the award on the club's website, he said: "It feels great. I feel like I’ve just got over watching it so to relive it again by winning the goal of the month award is great and I’m delighted to win.

"I can’t remember the last trophy I won, maybe one when I was like eight years old, so it’s really nice to have, and it’s also really nice to be acknowledged.

“I feel like it was quite a big day for me anyway so for that to happen just felt like it was my day and it’s one of those days I look back on and am just so grateful it happened really.

“It’s still a bit of a blur, to be honest, and with it being my first league game in a while when the ball came off my foot and went into the goal it was just a blur.

"You can tell by the celebration that I’ve just ran to Rory [Feely] and given him a big hug, it just didn’t feel real, to be honest.”
