BARROW AFC B Team striker Sam Bellis said he hopes he has caught the eye of first-team boss Pete Wild with his double against Blackpool reserves.

The 20-year-old forward found the back of the net twice as the Bluebirds' B Team emerged victorious from an eight-goal thriller with the Tangerines' reserve side at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

Reflecting on his performance, Bellis emphasised the importance of taking his opportunities to impress when they arise.

Speaking on the club's website, he said: "It was a really good game, we started well, especially in the first half but it was good to get my first 90 minutes in a while, so a good performance and to get a couple of goals as well is always a nice feeling.

"It was a bit end-to-end second half, that is when it started to open up but that's going to happen in these games when we are not playing frequently but it is always a good chance to impress and hopefully do something right."

"It is important that we go out and do it right and obviously the older lads as well were driving it today and it would be easy for them to come here and not be bothered but they are great professionals."

The young striker joined up with Barrow's new B Team after impressing as a pre-season trialist.

Bellis began his footballing journey in Manchester City youth ranks before moving into the Southampton academy and explained how his new Barrow teammates have helped him make his first step into the adult game.

"It's been really good to be fair, the lads have been great and I am having a really good time," he said.

"It is different coming from an academy dressing room to a men's game but I think I have settled in quite well and all the lads are brilliant so I couldn't as much more.

"I think with the standards that they drive and what they have done in the game it is only going to help me being in and around it every day and obviously it is up to me to get up to the standard and hopefully I catch the manager's eye."
