JAMIE Proctor was jubilant after his goal gave Barrow a 2-1 win over Sutton United.

For much of the game, the Bluebirds seemed unable to capitalise on a ten-man Sutton United after Harry Smith was sent off.

Sutton player Lee Angol scored the first goal and despite a number of opportunities, it took until well into the second half before Barrow's Emile Acquah put one in the back of the net.

In the 82nd minute, Proctor buried the winning goal. The win was particularly impressive especially considering Sutton's strong 5-1 win against Notts County on the opening day.

Proctor said: "Obviously, the three points are brilliant. We overcame a lot of problems in the game. We kept going - I think it’s so early in the season and we’ve already shown quality today.

"It’s going to put us in a good place, there was a lot of adversity today but we came through. I think today is a sign of what's to come.

"They'll be up there this season, they always are. They've got a really good squad that can blow teams away - we knew it was going to be tough today. We've got three points against a side that started so well last week, so everyone should be proud.

"We were patient, we kept the ball and we played the 96th minute the same as the first."

Proctor praised the depth of Pete Wild's squad saying: "We’ve got a squad who no matter who plays we’ve got a competition. Whoever it is across the pitch we’re going to get a decent level of performance."

Proctor is a new signing for Barrow but he had to miss the opening game against Tranmere Rovers due to injury.

He said: "You never want to miss the start of the season but you’ve got to make sure you are right. I came back today and played my part. As long as we all stick together we’ll win more games than we’ll lose."
