PREMIER league stars have thrown their support behind an Ulverston school’s fundraiser by donating a signed shirt for its auction night.

Liverpool FC heroes Mo Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and captain Jordan Henderson are among those who signed the shirt that will go under the hammer at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Ulverston, on Friday.

Fourteen members of the team put pen to shirt especially for the school, only days after the Anfield side beat rivals Manchester United 7-0. The Springfield Road school is welcoming people from across the community to its auction night, the first it has held in more than three years.

Headteacher Laura Byrne said: “There’s been a lot of excitement around school since the shirt arrived and we’re thrilled that the club have been able to support our fundraising.

“The auction is open to the entire community so Liverpool fans across the area are welcome to come and try their luck at winning such a special item.

“We’re also grateful for the support we’ve had from our amazing local businesses too. There are so many fabulous prizes.”

Complete with a certificate of authenticity, the shirt includes the signatures of Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League Mo Salah, Alisson Becker - one of the world’s leading goalkeepers, club legends and England internationals Jordan Henderson and James Milner and Dutch captain Virgil Van Dijk and his fellow countryman Cody Gakpo.

Other signatories include Fabinho, Konate, Thiago, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The school has a licensed bar for the event with doors opening at 7.30pm and the first item being up for auction at 8 pm.

Other auction lots include dinner, bed and breakfast at Abbey House Hotel, a signed Everton FC photograph, a four-ball round of golf at Ulverston Golf Club, a ride in a car of the buyer’s choice from Matt Johnson Prestige, family tickets to the World of Beatrix Potter, a Barrow AFC home game, Windermere Lake Cruises and the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the school’s Family and Friends of St Mary’s charity, which is currently fundraising for an immersive sensory pod. The charity also supports curriculum-enhancing activities for the children.
