ENGLAND fans from Barrow headed out on Saturday to watch England face Ukraine in the quarter finals of Euro 2020.

It proved to be an enjoyable evening for Three Lions supporters as Gareth Southgate’s side put four past their Eastern European opponents.

Captain Harry Kane scored the first of England’s goals, sparking wild celebrations amongst the hundreds at Barrow Raiders’ Craven Park.

Chairman Steve Neale said: “It has been good.

“There is close to one thousand people here tonight.

“We are probably making more money from these events than we would from a matchday.

“We are having one to two of these events every week at the moment, and it has been fantastic for the club in terms of going forward.

“Covid has kind of been a blessing in disguise for us to allow the diversification of the club, but obviously we have needed the people of Barrow too.”

Andrew Spencer, who is running the security at the Raiders beer garden, was pleased to see everyone behaving so well at the event.

The head of Apollon Security Services commented: “The atmosphere here is absolutely unreal.

“With the last couple of months we have had, I think everyone is entitled to a bit of enjoyment.

“I am proud to be involved with something like this – it is the biggest venue in the area and has been really well managed by the staff and myself.”

It was a busy night too for The Ambrose Hotel.

Landlady Lynda Henderson believes the Euros has helped the pub industry recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and is already looking forward to England’s next game.

Lynda said: “We were busy from 3.00pm onwards – it was just non-stop for us.

“It was a brilliant atmosphere in here, everyone was behaving themselves and we had no trouble.

“It was a lot different to that first game when we were a bit dead – it has got better with every game.

“Last night it was all hands on deck, we even had a few of our customers helping us because it was just so busy.

“And we look forward to doing it all over again on Wednesday.

“We have needed it after the last 18 months that everybody has had and it is a big boost for the local businesses in the area.”

England next face Denmark at 20:00 on Wednesday evening in the semi final at Wembley.

A win will put the nation one win away from their first European Championship trophy ever.

Spain and Italy face off in the other semi final, which will take place on Tuesday at 20:00.
