THE last of the Barton Townley 1st round cup competition takes place this Saturday with Dalton travelling to near neighbours Ulverston.

A great game looks in prospect as both sides have been putting in good performances in their respective leagues. Both sides should be at near full strength with Ulverston coach Dave Clark expecting a hard game but recognising Dalton have a strong side being together for several seasons so should put Ulverston to the test, Clark says Ulverston recognise the importance of the Competition with the lads looking forward to the game.

Dalton coach Dave High has a near full strength squad to pick from with Dane Richards and Ioan Hayes also added to the squad. High says he is expecting a tough game but if we stick to our game plan then we should be ok.

The winners play Hindpool in the semi-final.

In the League last week Ulverston were just beaten by Widnes Moorfield 38 points to 32, they travelled with an injury hit team but put in a good performance leading 26 points to 22 at half time, the Ulverston try scorers were Marc Storey, Dan Akrigg, Brad Williamson, Conner Saunders, and he also kicked 4 conversions.

Dalton started well at Haresfinch going into a 10-nil lead but with both sides playing some good Rugby Haresfinch drew level 10-10 both sides scored a try and conversion before half time to make 16-16.

It was only a late penalty that Dalton lost 32-30, Dalton try scores were, Jack Crarey, Harry Gordon. Zac Steel, Ewan Costa, Jack Gelling, with Zac Steel landing 3 goals.

Hindpool had a great win over Cadishead with 28 points to 14 hard earned victory.

It was a tough game throughout but Hindpool stuck to their task with strong defences from both sides Grant Burns, Rob Stirzacker, Mat Archer, Peter Rimmer, Brad Rowan, Brett Partridge were the Hindpool try scorers with Grant Burns kicking 3 goals

Roose pioneers came away from Wollston with a great win, despite being 16-12 behind at half time they put in a strong second half performance to come away with 32 points to 20 victory the Pioneers try scores were Liam Armistead, Jake Torkington, with Sam Beatie kicking 3 goals.

In the local derby Barton Townley first, round Millom defeated Askam at Fallowfield Park.

Before a 200 plus crowd both sides played some hard fast Rugby the game was nip and tuck in the first half with Millom having a 18-6 lead, the second half Askam started like house on fire pounding the Millom try line they did in fact get over the Millom try line three times only to be held up on their backs with strong defence from Millom holding out.

Despite Askam trying to prize the Millom defence open a faster all round Millom outfit had them take 30 points to 18 victory.

Askam try scorers Tom Askew, Keir Shepherd, Owen Bridle, Brad Jackson kicked 3 goals.
