U14s Coach Terry Anderson said: "Every grassroots player across the country must have found the last 12 months really difficult with not being able to enjoy playing football outdoors with their friends, the impact it has on the players mental health should not be underestimated and as coach’s I believe we all have a responsibility to try and minimise that impact by helping where we can.

"As a coach at Askam Utd Juniors I have tried to ensure the U14s team has been able to maintain a good level of fitness as well as still being able to work together whilst being at home.

"It was important to ensure the players connected with each other on a weekly basis.

"I have organised Weekly Individual & Team challenges, for example Total miles run per player/team, Quiz’s and most recently arranged 6 week Strength & Conditioning classes delivered over ZOOM by Barrow Raiders Community Trust Team.

"A big thank you must go out to Siona, Ruth, Tee & Callum for delivering such tough but enjoyable sessions.

"Credit to the other coaches at Askam Utd FC as they have also delivered fun online training sessions and challenges with their respective teams.

"It will be great to get back outside and reconnect with the teams throughout the Junior and senior sides at Askam Utd and look forward to plenty of games from now until the end of the season."

U14s Captain Liam Smith said: "Coming back to football will be one of the best things to happen, I have really missed football.

"I know that as a team we are eager to get back on the pitch together and play football.

"There have been struggles such as keeping fit but we found ways around this by setting challenges throughout the week e.g. how fast can you run a mile and our Coach (Terry) has set up Zoom sessions with the Barrow Raiders strength and conditioning team which has massively helped us all.

"We are all very excited to get back playing but we know it may take some time and hard work to get back to our best."
