Boss Michael Jolley says he will encourage his Barrow AFC players to act in a “safe and appropriate manner” as football remains under scrutiny over Covid-19.

Football’s authorities have said they are confident the season can continue provided all clubs continue to adhere to protocols aimed at limiting the risk posed by the virus.

That includes twice-weekly testing and ensuring stadiums and training grounds are as Covid-safe as possible.

There have been warnings, though, from both football chiefs and politicians about certain practices in the game, such as goal celebrations which contravene social distancing guidelines.

Jolley said of the latter subject: “I haven’t spoken to the players about it but I may do.

“I think, clearly, we’re in very uncertain times and we’re all having to adapt and adjust to the new normal and a new way of life.

“I think football certainly has to play its part, as it is doing, largely, in stopping the spread of this virus.

“Within reason we will be trying to do our jobs and do what we get paid for, which is play football in the case of the players, but of course wherever it’s possible to behave and act in a safe and appropriate manner. I’ll be encouraging the boys to do that.”

The FA, Premier League and EFL have they have “confidence in our Covid-19 protocols and our ability to bring the season to a successful conclusion.”
