Cambridge boss Mark Bonner paid tribute to Barrow AFC’s quality and says they got what they deserved.

The high-flying U’s boss admitted David Dunn’s side caused them problems all game in Saturday’s 1-1 draw.

Matty Platt’s header pegged back the second-placed hosts after an impressive showing against League Two’s leading scorers.

Bonner admitted he was frustrated by the late finish but conceded that AFC were good value for the result.

“Whenever you concede a goal and it takes away your win so late on, of course it feels like a defeat so it is obviously frustrating,” he said.

“Barrow kept going and caused us problems throughout the afternoon - they played well.

“We didn’t play so well, certainly with the ball, and in the first half struggled to get control of them and get a press as high up the pitch as we wanted to.

“We got a bit more control of the second half. We thought we had seen out the last few phases of defending when we put the extra centre-back on.

“We didn’t have the same intensity without the ball in the first half that we needed but, having said that, when we get on top and score a goal, we’re normally very good at seeing out those situations.

“We thought we had seen that through, but obviously it didn’t go our way and overall they deserved something from the game.”
