Barrow`s youngest racing motorcyclist schoolboy Travis Shaw is competing a bit nearer home this weekend.

Travis, five year old son of Danny Shaw, who recently made a foray into classic racing on a 500cc Honda provided by Askam enthusiast Harry Barker of HRP builders, is competing in the sixth round of the FAB Minimoto British Championship at the Rowrah Stadium circuit near Whitehaven this weekend.

The COOLFAB Minimoto Championship is one of the few motorcycle series that have managed to go ahead despite all the Covid restrictions.

Throughout the year "Team Travis" have managed to contest all the 2020 rounds which started on the Lydden track in Kent ,where he achieved a creditable sixth place at his first ever meeting.

He followed that up with similar placings in the next two rounds that took place again down in the south on circuits in Dorset and the Ellough Park circuit in Sussex.

Despite several inevitable spills on the way, the Barrow youngster rapidly gained experience and just missed a podium finish in the fourth round at Whitton Mill near Daventry last month.

This a was followed up with a fifth place finish at the next round round back at Ellough Park. Last weekend he carried out some further testing under the watchful eye of dad on the Knockhill circuit in Scotland.

There are two more rounds to go with on back in Suffolk and one in South Wales.

I did hear a rumour that dad Danny, and a few more colleagues could be competing in the adult races at Rowrah. Superbike to Classic machines and now Minimoto that`s what you call multi-skilled.
