The signing of Super League prop Adam Walne is a signal of intent from Barrow Raiders, according to the club's rugby director Andy Gaffney.

After weeks of negotiations Walne, who has most recently played for Huddersfield Giants in the top tier of rugby league, penned a two year deal at Craven Park.

He will now line-up alongside his brother Jordan, after their pair played together at Salford Red Devils.

Gaffney believes the signing of Walne, and that of Shaun Lunt earlier in the summer shows where the Raiders hierarchy want the club to go.

He said: "It is a huge signing for us, probably the biggest signing since I've been at the club.

"Adam is a Super League player, and to have a player of that quality in our squad is fantastic.

"With his new business it worked for him, and it is great to have him playing alongside his brother, it is a great look for the club.

"We've signed Adam and Shaun Lunt and I think both of those are signals of intent, and show where this club wants to go.

"Adam is the real deal, he's got speed, he's great attacking and great defending, and those are the type of quality players we want to have.

"We're looking to tie up deals with existing players and we're still on the look out for new faces, if players do become available to help us improve."
