The three new signings Barrow AFC have made this week will all bring different qualities to the team for the 2020/21 season, according to manager David Dunn.

Midfielders Mike Jones and Tom Beadling and wide attacker Luke James, who is returning for his second spell at Holker Street, became the first players to join the Bluebirds since Dunn’s appointment when they all joined on Monday.

They were just the start of what is expected to be a busy few weeks for Dunn, who needs to build on the 13 players who are currently in his squad ahead of what will be AFC’s first season in the English Football League for 48 years.

Dunn said: “Tom would be a bit more of a sitter, I suppose, or defensive minded, but he can get involved in both boxes, he can mark players, he can score a goal and he’s good with his head.

“Mike Jones would possibly sit more and get us playing and be that link between the defenders and the midfielders, but I wouldn’t say he’s defensive minded.

“He’s certainly good on the ball and can get us ticking.

“Luke is a player who I’ve watched in quite a lot of games and I feel like he’s got bags of energy, he moves well with the ball and makes things happen. I think he’s a player that’s going to have a lot of joy here.”

The playing side of things isn’t the only area on Dunn’s mind when it comes to recruitment, with the 40-year-old still working hard on bringing in members of his backroom staff before the players are due to return for pre-season training in just over a week’s time.

Dunn said: “There will be new additions coming in during the next couple of weeks, obviously, but I don’t want to rush. I want to get the right fit, as in I want to get the right players who will fit in here.

“But watch this space because I’m sure there will be a few that will be coming through the door.”

On how he’s getting on with bringing in his own staff, which he really is having to build from scratch after his predecessor Ian Evatt took his with him to Bolton, Dunn said: “I’m trying to build the team as well on the management side of it.

“Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks - certainly before we go back into pre-season - we should have quite a few new additions in the staff as well.
