The British Legion are well on their way in taking this year’s billiards title in the Barrow Friday League after winning 2-1 at the Navy Club.

Allan Edmondson, playing his game earlier in the week, beat Geoff Turner 100-55 before Navy captain John Clamp levelled the match with a 100-73 win over Alf Carruthers.

Kevin Quinn then took the last game on the night with a 100-80 win over Ian Large to leave his team needing just one more point to take the title for the 19th time.

British Legion A took three points at home against Roose Cons, with their top man winning 100-43 against Peter Roberts and Billy Burns stepped in for his second table game of the night to beat Rob Chissim 100-57. Tony Macmillan made it a clean sweep with a 100-43 result against Mike Irving.

Barrow Football Supporters Club took all three points at home against Vickerstown Cricket Club, with top man Harry Bateman, playing two table game,s on form with a 29 break and running out with a 35 break to beat Gareth Willis 100-40. He was backed up with similar 100-80-plus scores from Jimmy Wilson and Denis Plant, who beat David Holmes and Peter Scott, respectively.

In welch don, British Legion A took the title again after a 7-2 win against Roose Cons, with the champions’ best being regular partners Dave Macmillan/Mala McCoy, Bill Bowes/Alan Reid and Dave Leech/Walter Bowes.
