Tom White is feeling back up to full strength after the midfielder was one of the Barrow AFC players to have been affected by the virus that has gone through the squad of late.

The Bluebirds’ spluttering form at Boreham Wood came at the same time White was suffering from a chest infection, which rendered him only able to take a place on the bench.

He was reluctantly used by manager Ian Evatt at Meadow Park, following an earlier yellow card for Lewis Hardcastle, but he was able to help AFC largely control the midfield area against Solihull on Tuesday night.

White said: “I’m waking up every morning and coughing up phlegm, but it’s that time of the year when anyone can get a little chest infection.

“I’m getting on the mend and I felt better on Tuesday night, it was nice to be back out there.

“Myself and the manager had a conversation before the Boreham Wood game and decided that, with the amount of games that we had coming up, there wasn’t much benefit in putting me in because I hadn’t felt good all week - I’d been bed-bound on the Wednesday.

“Obviously, you want to be out there helping the lads and it is hard watching on.”

White’s start against Solihull was his first since his loan from Championship side Blackburn Rovers was extended until the end of the season, and it ended a month in which he opened his Bluebirds account against Ebbsfleet United.

Like his Rovers colleague Matt Platt, it was an easy decision to stay for White, who said: “I spoke to the gaffer about it and the main thing for me was that he was keen to have me back, which was important.

“I’ve got a lot of time and respect for the gaffer and what he’s doing here. He’s doing a brilliant job and I wanted to be a part of that - I couldn’t walk away from the opportunity that we’ve got, so I’m delighted that we’ve got it done.

“I’ve said on record that when I played Barrow last year with Gateshead that they were the best team in the league and since I’ve come in I’ve been so impressed with everyone at the club.”

White has yet to suffer defeat with the Bluebirds since arriving in November and his time at the club has coincided with them opening up a five-point lead at the top of the National League.

Tomorrow, they defend their 17-match unbeaten run against the last team who defeated them, Torquay United.

White said: “It’s very impressive and it’s not often that it happens in this league, so obviously it stands out and we’ll take the plaudits for it, but we’re not satisfied at all.

“We want to keep it going, we don’t want to taste defeat because no-one likes getting beat. It’s a quick turnaround again, but we’ll be ready for Saturday, I’m sure.”
